Keynote Speaker
Stephen C. Brich was appointed commissioner of the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) in January 2018. Brich possesses 26 years of extensive experience specializing in the areas of traffic engineering, safety, operations, transportation planning and research. Prior to his appointment, Brich served as a vice president with Kimley-Horn and Associates, focusing on transportation matters in Virginia. He was responsible for leading strategic planning and pursuits relating to surface transportation for Kimley-Horn’s three Virginia offices.
As VDOT Commissioner, Brich oversees a $5.4 billion annual budget and a team of 7,700 people who are responsible for designing, building, maintaining and operating the state’s nearly 58,000 miles of roadway, 21,000 structures and bridges, six tunnels and three ferry systems. He holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Old Dominion University and a master’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Virginia. He is a licensed professional engineer in Virginia and Maryland.
